I get the newsletter from Ask the Headhunter. I’ve gotten it for years because I like his style. The hiring process in many companies is not the best and I would love to see it get fixed and I think he does his part to raise attention to that.
So this week I read his usual weekly and saw the topic was salary history. Should you disclose it or not. He says no and so do I. But it seems many HR people think they have a right to your personal financial information. I do not. We live in a different world today, 10 or 20 years ago, identity theft was not that widespread, today it is. In fact the work place is where most people get theirs stolen because of bad HR data security! So I am against handing out information that can be used to steal your identity. But apparently this means I have something to hide, so say some in HR. No, it means I don’t want to be spending the next few years in credit hell because someone in an HR department wanted a new car at my expense. HR needs to wake up and realize, some information is off limits because they don’t have the ability to protect it. Personal finance information is off limits and legally not required.
Aslo the points they bring up about “proper evaluation” have no basis in profit assessment. In fact on Ask the Headhunter and nother blog he references, you will see not ONE of the HR people demonstrates the profitability of their methods. Which shows, they are out of touch. How many of you get to do things without demonstrating the profitability of it, especially in this market?
Anyway, you can see the conversation and my posts, I’m the one going by the name Edward, at this link
